'Blak Lub' is a collection of old and new works by Sydney based Warumungu designer and artist, Jessica Johnson. XO

Jessica Johnson is an artist and designer with decades of experience. She first learned her craft from her father, artist John Johnson. Raised around creative people, she sees art as a powerful tool for healing, sharing culture, and starting important conversations. This exhibition brings together a mix of her earlier pieces and new creations.

Artist call out — exhibit with us in 2027

The Black Canoe is opening its walls to the next wave of artists. Since opening, we've brought art, culture, music and community together through exhibitions, artist talks, openings and collabs.

Our artists have shared bold perspectives and found audiences / collectors near and far — including Germany, USA and China.

We welcome all artists, backgrounds, genders, sexualities, ages and abilities. I especially encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to apply.

DM @theblackcanoe.au or email info@theblackcanoe.com.au with examples of your work and a short artist bio. Expressions of interest close 20 December 2026.
